Two years after Hurricane María, Puerto Ricans were still grappling with the enduring hardships left in its wake. For many of them, María was still a present reality.
PSA
In this meditation on María’s enduring impact, we stepped back in respectful silence, allowing the sounds of the island to speak for themselves over the buildings and homes devastated by the hurricane.
BLUE TARPS SOCIAL CAMPAIGN
To highlight María’s lasting impact on the island, we used actual screenshots from Google Maps taken on the exact day of each social post, allowing viewers to see the many blue tarps still covering Puerto Rican homes.
BRING COLOR BACK TO PUERTO RICO
We began by showing the blue tarps from above, then moved below to reveal the people still affected by the hurricane. The tarps cast a haunting, spectral blue light over those living beneath them, so we aimed to bring color back into their lives through a series of donation-based posts.
STORIES OF RESILIENCE
We interviewed not only those impacted by the hurricane but also the community leaders empowered by PRxPR to rebuild the island. We produced a series of micro-documentaries capturing their resilience and daily lives to share on social media.
